Forschungscampus STIMULATE feiert 10-jähriges Bestehen
Zur Jubiläumsfeier am 28.02.2024 wurde der Forschungscampus STIMULATE für seine wegweisenden Beiträge zur medizinischen Forschung und für die wirtschaftlichen Auswirkungen gefeiert. Sachsen-Anhalts Wissenschaftsminister Prof. Dr. Armin Willingmann gratulierte dem Campus zu diesem Meilenstein und betonte die bedeutende Rolle, die STIMULATE in der medizintechnischen Innovation spielt.
"Mit der Entwicklung bildgestützter, minimal-invasiver Verfahren für die Behandlung von Volkskrankheiten wie Krebs, Schlaganfall oder Herzerkrankungen hat sich der Forschungscampus STIMULATE national wie international einen Namen gemacht", sagte Minister Willingmann. "Der Campus zeigt beispielhaft auf, wie eine enge Vernetzung von Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft erfolgreich gelingen kann. Er hat sich zu einem Innovationsmotor der Medizintechnik entwickelt."
Das "Solution Center for Image Guided Local Therapies - STIMULATE" wurde als private-öffentliche Partnerschaft an der Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg gegründet. Finanzielle Unterstützung erhält der Forschungscampus vom Bund, dem Land, der EU sowie von Partner-Medizintechnikunternehmen wie der Siemens Healthineers AG. Weitere akademische und industrielle Partner arbeiten seit der Bewilligung der ersten Förderphase gemeinsam an innovativen Projekten.
Zu den Errungenschaften zählen unter anderem die weltweit erste Mikrowellenablation eines Tumors in einem Magnetresonanztomographen (MRT) mit STIMULATE-Technologie und die Entwicklung eines Assistenzroboters für die Ablation von Tumoren in der Wirbelsäule.
Im Jahr 2020 zog der Forschungscampus mit Unterstützung des Wissenschaftsministeriums in den Magdeburger Wissenschaftshafen um. Für die Sanierung des ehemaligen Zuckerspeichers wurden mehr als 21 Millionen Euro seitens des Landes investiert. Auf insgesamt 3.300 Quadratmetern Fläche sind 17 hochmoderne Labore entstanden, ausgestattet mit Großgeräten wie einem 3 Tesla MRT, einem Computertomographen (CT) neuster Generation und dem neusten Angiographiesystem „Artis Icono biplane“, dem aktuell internationalen „Flaggschiff“ der Siemens Angiographie-Systeme.
Der enge Verbund von Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft führte auch zu Unternehmensgründungen, darunter die Start-ups Neoscan Solutions, RAYDIAX und mediMESH.
Die Jubiläumsveranstaltung begann mit herzlichen Grußworten von namhaften Persönlichkeiten wie Prof. Helmut Weiß, Prorektor für Planung und Haushalt der Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg (in Vertretung für den Universitätsrektor Prof. Jens Strackeljan), Prof. Armin Willingmann, Minister des Ministeriums für Wissenschaft, Energie, Klimaschutz und Umwelt des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt (in Vertretung für den Ministerpräsidenten des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt, Dr. Reiner Haseloff) sowie Sandra Yvonne Stieger, Beigeordnete Dezernat Wirtschaft, Tourismus und regionale Zusammenarbeit der Landeshauptstadt Magdeburg (in Vertretung für Simone Borris, Oberbürgermeisterin der Landeshauptstadt Magdeburg). Sowohl die Vertretenden der Universität als auch die Landeshauptstadt Magdeburg und des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt betonten in Ihren Grußworten die hohe Bedeutsamkeit von STIMULATE und bekundeten ihre Unterstützung für die Verstetigung des Forschungscampus als nachhaltige Struktur für Medizintechnik. Höhepunkt der Veranstaltung war der Rückblick von Prof. Georg Rose, Sprecher des Forschungscampus STIMULATE, auf die Highlights der letzten 10 Jahre und die zukünftige Vision des Campus.
Die Veranstaltung bot außerdem einen Rundgang durch verschiedene Info-Stationen, darunter die Geschichte des STIMULATE-Campus, wirtschaftliche Effekte durch Start-Ups, Aus- und Weiterbildungsangebote, aktuelle Forschungsprojekte sowie das neue Medizintechnik-Ökosystem im Wissenschaftshafen Magdeburg "transPORT - TransferHAFEN Magdeburg".
"Ich bin zuversichtlich, dass STIMULATE auch in den kommenden Jahren hervorragend entwickelt wird", sagte Minister Willingmann. "Der Forschungscampus kann sich dabei weiterhin auf die Unterstützung des Landes verlassen, auch hinsichtlich einer Verstetigung. Wir wollen weiterhin konsequent in den Wissenschaftsstandort Sachsen-Anhalt investieren."
Research Campus STIMULATE celebrates its 10th anniversary
"With the development of image-based, minimally invasive procedures for the treatment of common diseases such as cancer, stroke and heart disease, the Research Campus STIMULATE has made a name for itself both nationally and internationally," said Minister Willingmann. "The campus is an example of how close networking between science and industry can be successful. It has developed into a driver of innovation in medical technology."
The "Solution Center for Image Guided Local Therapies - STIMULATE" was founded as a private-public partnership at Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg. The Research Campus receives financial support from the federal and state governments, the EU and partner medical technology companies such as Siemens Healthineers AG. Other academic and industrial partners have been working together on innovative projects since the first funding phase was approved.
Its achievements include the world's first microwave ablation of a tumor in a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner using STIMULATE technology and the development of an assistant robot for the ablation of tumors in the spine.
In 2020, the Research Campus moved to Magdeburg's Port of Science with the support of the Ministry of Science. The state invested more than 21 million euros in the renovation of the former sugar warehouse. A total of 17 ultra-modern laboratories have been created on an area of 3,300 square meters, equipped with large-scale devices such as a 3 Tesla MRI scanner, a latest-generation computer tomography (CT) scanner and the latest angiography system "Artis Icono biplane", currently the international "flagship" of Siemens angiography systems.
The close cooperation between science and industry also led to the founding of companies, including the start-ups Neoscan Solutions, RAYDIAX and mediMESH.
The anniversary event began with warm words of welcome from renowned personalities such as Prof. Helmut Weiß, Vice-Rector for Planning and Budget at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (representing the University Rector Prof. Jens Strackeljan), Prof. Armin Willingmann, Minister of the Ministry of Science, Energy, Climate Protection and Environment of the State of Saxony-Anhalt (representing the Minister President of the State of Saxony-Anhalt, Dr. Reiner Haseloff) and Sandra Yvonne Stieger, Deputy Head of the Department of Economics, Tourism and Regional Cooperation of the State Capital Magdeburg (representing Simone Borris, Mayor of the State Capital Magdeburg). The representatives of the university, the state capital of Magdeburg and the state of Saxony-Anhalt emphasized the great importance of STIMULATE in their welcoming speeches and expressed their support for the continuation of the Research Campus as a sustainable structure for medical technology. The highlight of the event was the review by Prof. Georg Rose, spokesperson of the Research Campus STIMULATE, of the highlights of the last 10 years and the future vision of the campus.
The event also offered a tour of various information stations, including the history of the STIMULATE campus, economic effects through start-ups, training and further education opportunities, current research projects and the new medical technology ecosystem in Magdeburg's port of science "transPORT - TransferHAFEN Magdeburg".
"I am confident that STIMULATE will continue to develop excellently in the coming years," said Minister Willingmann. "The Research Campus can continue to rely on the support of the state, also with regard to continuation. We want to continue to invest consistently in Saxony-Anhalt as a science location."
